Stephanie began writing as soon as she could hold a pencil steady. Her first (terrible) poem was written at age 7 and she never stopped. The awful poems did stop when she took a course in Creative Non-Fiction at her alma mater, Washington College. This small liberal arts school in Chestertown is renown for its writing program and for its Sophie Kerr Prize - the largest undergraduate literary award in the country. In May 2001, Stephanie won that award for a collection of short stories based on her native roots on the Delmarva Peninsula.
Her inspiration to start Salt Water Media evolved from her love of writing and her own experiences with publishing her novel, Crossings.
